Dr. Bob Joe has been taking care of Austinites’ eyes since 1976, starting in private practice then ultimately founding what is known today as Austin Optometry Group. Dr. Joe engages in all aspects of primary eye care with an emphasis on ocular disease and contact lens management both of normal eyes and in medically necessary cases. Dr. Joe has built his reputation on his expertise and by delivering excellent results in complex cases but enjoys all aspects of eye care.

Dr. Joe is awesome, I've been seeing him for years, on the recommendation of a former co-worker. He is a very funny, quiet, collected guy, and he knows his business. I was super impressed that he was familiar with "Fuchs Syndrome", a fairly rare congenital cornea disease that runs down my father's side of the family. Noone I've ever seen, outside of my father's optometrist in New Jersey, has ever heard of this. Of course, there are a lot of Germans in Central Texas so maybe it's more common here. I've got great eyesight myself, suffering mainly from old age, but with diabetes, I am supposed to get annual exams, and because Dr. Joe is part of my in-network insurance plan, I pay only a normal in-network specialist co-pay for a full exam. So I really don't mind that my endocrinologist wants me to go every year.
Dr Joe is the most caring and compassionate person I've ever met. He will go above and beyond to figure out what is wrong with your eyes, and come up with a solution to take care of the problem. He doesn't give up on you!! I hope he never retires, don't know what his patients would do without him!!
