He did his internal medicine residency at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY; hematology fellowship at Albert Einstein Montefiore Program in Bronx NY. He completed his Oncology Fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Center, Buffalo, NY in 1990 He is triple board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology. He is also certified by the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. He has been on the faculty of the University of California, Irvine where he piloted clinical studies in lung cancer.
