Company Description

Famed for its distinct flavors - hot, sour, sweet, salty, smoky, bitter - Szechuan cuisine has been called the boldest of the Eight Chinese Cuisines. Signature flavors are the numbingly spicy "Ma La" flavor, the sweet and sour "Yu Xiang" flavor, the savory, chili-based "Kou Shui" flavor and many others.

This is a fantastic Chinese restaurant which I went at least 15 times. Everything tastes heavenly, esp the Cumin Lamb, Twice cooked Pork Belly, Lotus Root, Dan Dan Noodles, Chilli Chicken, etc.

Service was a little slow, but they were polite. Food was pretty good, except the soup which was a little salty... We ordered the fried chicken with three peppers, crispy fish filet, string beans, and bok choy.

Seeing this rated as 4.2 stars was one of the most shocking and offensive moments of my life. Gourmet Kingdom is, bar none, the greatest Chinese restaurant and perhaps the greatest restaurant I have ever been to. There is nowhere else in the Triangle you can get food like this, and it’s no wonder I count myself among a growing legion of loyal fans. Recommendations: Twice-cooked pork, Szechuan Spicy Fish, Lotus Root, Mapo Tofu - and for those of you with less tolerance for spice, the Kung Pao Chicken also slaps

Food was authentic and fresh, the service was amazing. The owners gave plenty of recommendations. I had the fish it was light and crispy. My friend that I brought with me lived in Japan for a few years and loved the soup. Parking can be tight during peak times.

Disgusting. I order chicken and mixed vegetables with rice. I ask the lady to make my food very spicy. Now tell me why she brought my food tasted 100% sweet instead of spicy. The rice was not fully cooked. Some were hard and the broccoli was not seasoning at all. Taste like plain broccoli and water. The restaurant looks terrible, and unclean. They have 90% sanitation rate. Left over food and plates are on tables but the staffs keep walking pass it. Bathroom was the worse one ever. Toilet don’t flash and toilet tissue stack in the toilet. Urine all over the toilet seat. Water taps broken and no paper towels. Also, they have old boxes stack on top of each other on the floor like they are moving somewhere. That’s a violation code from the health department. Will never recommended to anyone. Gross and disgusting. They food taste like there is soap in it.

Unique, served family style, authentic cuisine. We went as a party of four, ordered steamed dumplings, cumin lamb, eggplant with garlic sauce, tea smoked duck, as well as the noodles. Each dish was well prepared, and a large bowl of white rice also came with our orders. It is a nice change to go and try so many unique, well prepared dishes in one sitting. My favorite, was the eggplant in garlic sauce! On the negative, the restaurant is badly in need of updating, but it is also part of the charm. Be sure to go with a group, so you can sample several of their specialities!

This is definitely one of the best Chinese places in my opinion in an near the Chapel Hill area... try the specialty menu in chinese usually written on the board as you walk in... also make sure to go for the dinner menu. Dinner dishes are larger and usually can feed 2 people. Dinner menu is a half chinese half english menu but so worth it when you find the right dish... Best shared family style as the plate sizes are larger than single person lunch plates. By the way you can also order it chinese spicy if you like it that way.

Be careful!!! Make sure to DOUBLE CHECK the Recipe!!!! The prices on the recipe are different from the prices on the menu!!!! We were charged 2-3 bucks higher on everything for what we ordered. For example, something with 11.75 on menu but actually charged us 13.44 on recipe?? Why???? It made us paid about 10 bucks more, and we also paid the tips by that price. We just noticed after got home, so make sure to check the recipe so you can argue with them face to face.

So, so awesome. Legit sichuan. I've never even seen kung pao lotus root at another restaurant. The Ba Sha chicken is amazing. The sichuan spicy fish is light and fluffy. Everything is excellent!
