If you don't care about pens don't go, but if you're a pen aficionado, you owe yourself a visit. It's a small and personal shop, and in addition to friendly staff, the owner, Bertram, is usually there to chat. The location is somewhat awkward, being in an office building behind locked doors - you have to call them to let you in at the door from the parking garage - but once you're in, it's a delight. They have a nice selection of fountain pens and all the inks and paper a pen nut expects. My only complaint is that the lighting doesn't show off some of the pens to their best advantage, but if you already know what you're looking for (and at), that won't matter.

Excellent shop. I feel extremely lucky to have a vast selection of pens and inks at a local purveyor. That, coupled with the immensely knowledgeable and friendly owner, makes Bertram’s Inkwell a must stop shop whenever I’m in the area. Too bad the store is no longer in Baltimore, where I am located, but honestly, the place is so wonderful for fountain pen lovers, it’s worth the drive.

Bertram's Inkwell was awesome. I just went in for a visit and wound up making several purchases from Bert. Bert was really friendly and knowledgeable about pens, inks, and products he sells as well as others. When I came in and started looking at new pens he also suggested some used pens. Being able to try a used pen before buying is the perfect experience. Bert's prices were very reasonable and I hope I can get back to the store soon. Bert also had an impressive selection of pen cases, from small to large with prices that were extremely competitive. If you're in the area or driving through, take a little detour. If you're a pen, ink and paper aficionado, you will be very happy that you did.

The owner was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. He got my order in and customized in no time, and all at a very reasonable price. Kind of hard to find (it's *inside* the office building) but a wonderful little place once you do.
