Dromgoole's Fine Writing Instruments is a 4th generation family business. Co-founded by Louis and Gene Dromgoole in 1961, we were known for being one of the largest typewriter and calculator dealers in the state of Texas with five locations. In 1987 Larry (grandson to Louis and son of Gene) purchased the Rice Village location from his dad and has been evolving the business ever since.

Great selection of pens and stationery. Friendly helpful staff. I would highly recommend this business for personal items and gifts.

This place has some of the coolest stuff, it's a wonder-land for anyone who likes pens, pencils and paper. The staff are very knowledgeable about their wares; from the manufacture of the pens to the different use-cases their customers may have. The difficulty I have with Dromgoole's may not be shared by all of you. I feel like I get profiled every time I go. It happens as soon as I walk through the door and it makes it hard for me to enjoy my time there. I am less likely to make a purchase, and more likely to stay away for longer periods of time as a result. It's sad, because I think it would be a great resource for me.

I feel soooo grateful that I made it to this place while visiting Houston. They have such a large selection of writing with a specialization in fountain pens. I also noticed a great quantity of high quality paper including rhodia, mnemosyne, and tomoe River paper. The staff is very kind and you can easily tell from the passion they radiate. Will try to go again.

The attendants there are very passionate of their products and very helpful and friendly.

A very fun place to look around. Great variety of pens. Staff was relaxed and let us look around the store with no pressure!

Got a starter fountain pen and papers here. Extremely friendly staff, reasonable prices and wide selection. Parking is very limited, but worth the walk in my opinion.

In short, they’re amazing... I was visiting from out of town and Will did an amazing job helping me find exactly what I was looking for. Truly, they carry just about everything you could ever hope to find, and their staff was far beyond my expectations for being knowledgeable and helpful. I could rave about them all day. They make me wish I lived nearby.

Love this store. It always makes me wish I had a bigger budget for pens. Regardless, if you enjoy writing you will find something you will be happy with and you will find pens ranging from the modestly priced Lamy on up into the Luxury. They also have a great selection of inks, stationary and what-have-you and rhe staff is always friendly. The only caveat is parking which can SOMETIMES be a little tricky but no more so than the rest of the Village.
