Cobalt Gay Bar
- 1639 R St NW, Washington, DC 20009, USA
Company Description
Cobalt has been setting the standard for years. Still wildly popular today, the “place to be seen” keeps it fresh and innovative with an unparalleled lineup of the city’s most eclectic DJs, electric parties, and a staff that has all the class without the attitude.

Terrible service, terrible “rent-a-cops” outside, and terrible drinks. This used to be the top club in DC and now I hate going. It’s never enjoyable, especially because the staff is obnoxious.

No line when I went. Was ladies night so not too many males there. The bar was packed and the music was good. Bar line was a bit long to wait but the bartender was nice and fast. Would like to go on another night

Cobalt is the discothéque of your dreams. The dj and light show are world-class. The most beautiful people in the district dance there. I don’t drink but the bar has very reasonably priced vodka based drinks like stoli & Red Bull(R). Please take care to hydrate if you enjoy vodka based cocktails. The bar offers water bottles, which make a nice, responsible chaser. The first level is the lounge area and smaller dance floor. Occasionally, they show music videos; these are very special nights. The top floor is for serious dancers: pro & amateur. The security team does a great job; please take care to be respectful to everyone and have fun!

Usually always had a great time at this spot for the past years. But this previous weekend I was denied entry from bouncer (short white/latina heavy-set woman) for apparently lying to her regarding how many drinks I had prior to coming to Cobalt. I was not drunk at all and of legal age, last time I checked its not a crime in the USA to drink if you're 21+. I had brought in friends to celebrate with from out of town and was embarrassed by my treatment at the door. Needless to say all 8+ of us left and spent our money elsewhere. Cobalt management I hope you address this situation so people aren't being arbitrarily turned away in the future.

I had a great evening at your establishment and ended my night there. When I went to shake the hand of Jo, the girl bartender I had been ordering from and tipping all night (I say girl because her actions at the end of the night were incredibly immature), she completely ignored and dismissed me. Granted she has every right to do so but to treat me in such a way after I've been tipping her generously, having my friends come on a weeknight, simply asking questions, just having fun, isn't right. Don't take advantage of people that you might think are drunk, they know what's going on. Being a nice person takes a hell of a lot less effort than being a mean one. Hopefully I just caught her on a bad night.

It's cute or whatever. The people are nice and so was the service. Nice selection of "culturally relevant" music especially considering I came from LA where the music selection in clubs was close to polar opposite of my taste. The drinks are cool. Not as potent as other places but it gets the job done eventually. I'd come back with a friend or two

Great if you like the younger crowd.

The bar tenders didn’t even know how to make simple drinks. Two drinks in trash cause they didn’t know or have everything needed. Teach or hire real bar tenders would be improvement. Only reason I give it a two.
