Company Description

In 2004, New York City Guitar School consisted of a single room in the Recording and Rehearsal Arts Building on West 30th Street in Manhattan.  One door led to the offices of four other businesses.  The other led to a shared bathroom.  As my students and I moved our guitars aside to allow yet another person use the facilities, I did not imagine that six years later New York City Guitar School would have over thirty teachers and twenty classrooms in the four locations in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens, or that thousands of students would learn to play guitar at those very locations.

I took a bass guitar class with Tom at the NYC Guitar school. I can't believe how much I learned in just 10 sessions! He was a great teacher, patient, lot's of fun, and very knowledgable. And the school itself has a great, laid back vibe. I highly recommend it!

The environment of New York City Guitar School is positive, professional, friendly, and welcoming. I receive professional teaching that is both serious and fun at the same time. The staff is very personable and friendly. The staff is also helpful and kind. My teacher, Miss Daisy is a great instructor. She is very knowledgeable and very patient. She is a talented, supportive, encouraging, and caring teacher. Miss Daisy is an amazing teacher and a fantastic person. I am pleased to be a student at the New York City Guitar School and I am looking forward to many more lessons.

My son attended NYC Guitar School summer rock band camp for 2 weeks for the first time this summer. I have taken him to many summer camps over the years and was immediately impressed when we got off the elevator. The friendly director knew his name and the other 5 or 6 students that were checking in, there was a warm, welcoming vibe that we felt immediately and all the instructors seemed laidback and cool. He ended up really enjoying his teacher, the culminating performance in Times Square and developed an even deeper interest in playing guitar & playing in a band. He has played his bass, electric or acoustic guitar every day since the camp ended and looks forward to doing it again in the fall or next summer. We are thankful we found NYC Guitar Schhol. A special thanks to James, his teacher, who was inspirational, awesome & fun.

I've been going to the guitar school since the beginning of the year. From my original class of six, five of us have continued to take classes (we have almost finished three), and it's six months later. The teachers are excellent and I think the class material and structure is also great -- I frequently use the online videos with the class content explained and demonstrated, so I can learn at my own pace, as well as the books given out with each class. The materials is well-designed so that while the new material challenging, it is not unnecessarily so.

My daughter, age 15, has been attending NYC Guitar School Summer Camp for three years and my son has been going for two years doing both summer camp and year-round sessions. NYC Guitar School is an extraordinary place. It's not just that the music program is excellent, it is the culture that makes it so awesome. The self-confidence the kids get from this school is tremendous. I wish I could post before and after videos of my kids performing, I attached some before and after pics instead. In the beginning, they were a bit timid and nervous getting up and playing and now when they perform they get on that stage act as if they own it. My son on stage after his first performance threw his arms in the air and screamed: "I am so proud of myself!" Now he has some swagger when he gets up there to perform. It sounds super corny, but the campers and counselors become family. And the kids are so supportive of the other kids. Friday night I watched some advanced students cheer on a group of teens who were new to playing and to the school.

My child attended a 2 week session of NYC Guitar School summer camp. It was an amazing experience, from learning techniques and rock history, to songwriting, recording and the cornerstone last night performance by all the rock bands at a great rock venue near Times Square. The instructors are all top notch and Jen runs a great program. The 2 weeks flew; cannot recommend this program highly enough.

I highly recommend New York City Guitar School. My 7-year old son and I (46-yr old mom) both wanted to take guitar lessons (not an easy combo), yet NY Guitar School made it happen. Oh, and we have no experience whatsoever. First, they helped us find the best guitars for us (advice, recommendations and education about what, how and where to buy it). We bought our guitars and love them. Next, they found us a teacher - Matteo - who is incredibly talented and incredibly patient. He is so versatile, he's able to teach me and my 7-year old (who is very rambunctious). And we could only do lessons on a specific day/time. New York Guitar School has been quick, effective, resourceful, talented, helpful and joyful. We can even play our first song now (didn't take long!). Run, don't walk, to New York Guitar School.
