I have used Ron Pace for 15 years, and he has done extensive work on my high-end acoustic guitars. He is the most experienced in the city and significantly less expensive than the other reputable shops. Be prepared for him to have your gear for 2-4 weeks and to not always get an answer to a phone call, but rest assured it's worth the wait! He's absolutely trustworthy and guarantees his work.

I took in a guitar to get pickups rewired, and installed in my guitar. Cool, did a good job, but the guy took the liberty of "setting up" my guitar. What happened? The guitar was given TERRIBLE buzzing, and the action was totally set out of whack. I didn't ask for this, and I forgot to tell him in no uncertain terms NOT to mess with the setup because it was perfect before, but nonetheless if it were me doing the work, I would've got a feeling that, "hey, this guitar feels good, I'm not going to alter it". I think even more than that, this is one sick individual, his attitude, and "re-activeness" is extremely unprofessional. I called in at the end of the day to ask if my guitar was finished as I had requested an early finish, and was willing to pay, and he said something to the affect of "if people would stop calling me all the time, then maybe I could get some work finished". I mean really, who wants to pay someone to do work who answers their customers in such a fashion? Granted the guy was nice after the fact, but that's really unimportant since I not only paid for fast tracking but was dragged along beleiving it was going to be finished the same day I dropped it off. Never again.

I've taken a few guitars to him to have various work done, and the wait time is ridiculous. The last time, I took an SG to him to simply be set up, and I waited about 3 months and kept calling to follow up, and they never returned my calls. I finally went to his house/shop to just get my guitar back, and the entire time him and his wife/worker (whoever she is) were constantly telling me how I'm wasting their time, going back and forth making me feel like I'm an idiot and in the wrong. I'm literally standing there in the middle of their living room, and him and his wife are on both sides of me taking turns throwing insults at me. I couldn't believe this. And when I finally got my guitar back, they told me that if I would've brought a case with it, the turn around time would've been much faster. What the hell does that have to do with anything?? Learn simple customer service Pace guitar staff! I will never give them another cent of my money.

Ron has done great work set up for me so far. He set up my LP custom and did really great work on a Strat lipstick. He is a little slow compared to his estimated time but the small delay was well worth it. If you need it quick you better make it clear, just as you would with anyone else.

My son has a Gibson Fort Knox which took a fall cracking the neck and adding some not so minor blemishes to the body. We took it to Ron to work some magic. It took him a good while but well worth the wait. He fixed the obvious and also touched up the not so obvious. He setup the guitar to rock star performance and my son is very happy!

don’t let the negative reviews scare you, ron does the best work in the houston area; oh, he’s also a great guy. i’ve had many guitars done by ron—refrets, custom bone nuts, custom saddles, pickup installation, and not to mention the best setups i’ve ever had. i live in austin and make a trip to houston just to use ron. speaking of austin, i left a guitar at ron’s for 3 years because i hadn’t gotten a chance to make it back to houston, and ron was nothing but gracious and patient with me in getting it back. (he was also cracking jokes with my girlfriend who ended up getting it for me, so the whole experience of getting my guitar back was flawless. he could’ve been a jerk to me or my girlfriend, but he wasn’t). all in all, take your guitars here. don’t be an amateur, though. don’t whine. don’t feel entitled. be kind, pay it forward, and trust ron with your guitar

Took my Strat in and had a complete setup done, and swapped the pups out. He asked when I needed it back and I told him no rush and got it back in two weeks. Ron answered all my questions and it was like an hrs worth. I couldn’t be happier with the price and quality of the work done. No need to go anywhere else. Ron is my guitar guy now. He was always extremely personable and professional. Even when I called to check on my guitar. Not to mention I’ve never felt this Strat play so easy and sound so good. Should have done it years ago. I’m bringing the rest of my guitars to Ron next week. I guess I’ll end by saying thanks Ron your the man!!!!

Best there is in Houston! Been dealing with Ron and crew for over 20 years. I see these negative comments and think BS! You can't please everyone. Do you want awesome, or do you want mediocre? If you want awesome then it's going to take a bit longer. Get over yourselves.

Took my Gibson Les Paul in to get the headstock / neck refinished. It had been broken years before and poorly refinished... was sticky and difficult to play (and look at). I brought it here, and even though it took a few months, Pace Guitar really delivered. The neck is practically brand new, it plays fantastic and looks amazing. I'm thrilled result. See before/after pics. .

Just got 3 guitars back and all 3 got new stainless steel frets. These guitars are amazing. I have 2 others that he has already done with stainless and every single one comes out unbelievably easy to play while to me have more sound to work with. If you have never thought about stainless, give it a try. These guitars truly play how you dream your guitar played. Also when I got home I noticed all the little things that Ron fixes or just cleans up. There might be places that are cheaper but there is no one in Houston (or Texas and beyond for that matter) that does better work. If you wonder how good a guitar can be or how professional guitarists' guitars play then you owe it to yourself to at least let Ron do one guitar for you. It will change how you look at all your other guitars.
