Company Description

Founded in 1969, Seattle Counseling Service is proud to be the oldest LGBTQ-focused community mental health agency in the world! Started as part of the Dorian Society in Seattle in 1969, SCS later expanded to become an independent organization. We began in a rented house with one telephone and several volunteers who hung out, ready to answer the phone, talk with people who dropped by, and offer counsel and support.

Good place to go for therapy. However, beginning August 1st they are barring the entrance of emotional companion animals, which I think is HIGHLY inappropriate for a therapy center, particularly one with the history, clientele, and claims of SCS.

After being a client here for 4+ Years, I was unable to ask for a new counselor, I was cut off cold turkey from ALL MY PSYCHIATRIC MESS, They called Social-Security on me and told them, I WAS NOT IN COMPLIANCE, and lastly they would not forward any info or records to my new therapist, thus preventing me from getting back on the Psyc meds they cut me off cold turkey from. It seems like in one day they just picked a number and totally turned on me. I was suicidal, self harming, etc and the assistant clinical director latterly told me HE DID NOT CARE, NOR COULD I DO A DAMN THING ABOUT IT. If you want to go to a place that could any day just flipped on you like that, then go here.

Not a big fan. I've went through two therapist and I'm finding them to be the same. They have HUGE patient loads and turn over appointments one after the other like a mill. The therapist sat down with me for our session not engaged nor having put any thought into the development of our conversation from the previous meeting. When I tried to approach a topic I would get very general therapist lines like, "oh how did that make you feel?" I felt like we were going no where and I was just getting more frustrated with the experience. I'll seek therapy elsewhere.

I felt unimportant and a bit discriminated against.. I went in over a month ago to start seeing someone...it took them two weeks just to get me in for my basic intake, then I had to call THEM another nearly 2 weeks later to find out if I had been assigned to anyone, then the woman informs me that not only will it be yet ANOTHER 2 weeks before she can see me, but she will only be able to see me for 45 min every 2 weeks! It had already been well over a MONTH since I had gone in there asking for help! I felt that I had been placed at the bottom of the pile because I'm just looking for help with depression and self-image...and not questioning my sexuality, am not trans-gendered or transitioning. It is very clear by their sign alone who they prefer to have as clientele, so if you are just looking for basic help and counseling go somewhere else....SCS specializes in the LGBT community and clearly shows favor.

complete waste of time, if you read a bad review about the place it's because they treat everybody who comes in there like an animal and with the assumption that you're too incompetent to make any decisions for yourself; public healthcare/medicaid it has to be this way because of the quality of people they have to deal with. I recommend just borrowing the $100 dollars from a friend and going to a REAL psychiatrist if you need to get your medications unless you have 2 or 3 months to waste. The truth is sad and ugly.
