Founded in 1979, The Atlanta Opera is one of the finest regional opera companies in the nation. In 2013, the company recruited internationally recognized stage director Tomer Zvulun as its General and Artistic Director. In the 2016-2017 season, the company expanded its mainstage season from three to four productions at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre while ushering the Discoveries series into its 3rd season for a total of six productions.

From relatively humble beginnings the Atlanta Opera has risen to become a showpiece of operatic excellence in the Deep South. Thanks to its chorus, a consistent strength of the company, the Atlanta Opera built the reputation to allow it to now command the attention of ever more high caliber principal cast. With a repertoire which seeks to illustrate the full range inherent in opera, the Atlanta Opera has something to offer everyone. The Atlanta Opera is well on its way to realize its mantra, that an international city like Atlanta deserves an internationally renowned opera company.

We saw "Abduction from the Seraglio"on Sat evening and my husband and I enjoyed it very much. Every August we fly to Santa Fe for the opera because it is so 1st class and we felt Atlanta was just as good.

The Flying Dutchman was a memorable first opera experience for our 9-year old, and we appreciated how kind staff members were to both of our sons.
