Took a lot of time to understand my current circumstance. Provided me with options (I elected surgery). In the hospital was a great communicator (made me feel at ease and confident in his work). Post op talked to me about what he found and did. Loved everything about his practice.
My shoulder got much worse after his surgery. Stay away of this doctor.
Dr Youm is the consummate professional. From our meeting to discuss options regarding my shoulder injury (torn bicep, labrum, rotator cuff) all the way thru surgery to requisite physical therapy he was always very informative and clear regarding expected outcome and then importance following instructions post surgery. 9 months out I have full range of motion, no pain at all, have regained all muscle mass due to atrophy and am back to my full works out (boxing, weight training, rock climbing and yoga.)
To say that I highly recommend Dr Youm would be an understatement.
If you are looking for a good professional orthopedic surgeon who has a number one staff that will treat you like a star, than go with Dr. Youm. HIs Xray tech is gentle and very friendly, not to mention his nurse who schedules you for surgery and keeps you posted on all pre-op testing up until the day of your procedure. His office staff are the best. I myself had both my knees replaced and Dr Youm was my answer from God. I was in so much pain and could not walk at all, and if you are having knee pain you know what i mean. Today almost a year later I am walking Pain free. My range of motion is excellent, I have healed and my scars are remarkable in time it will look like i skinned my knee. Dr. Youm thank you, thank you thank you ........... to your staff keep up the good work . You all have a fan for life. Joyce
Great doctor. I’m currently recovering from FAI surgery with no pain!!
I was referred to Dr Youm by my primary care doctor in Jan 2017 for ongoing pain in my right hip. From my very first visit, I felt like I was in good hands. After X-rays, which are done in office, and MRI (out of office), and a diagnostic cortisone shot, I was diagnosed with a labral tear do to FAI, and Dr Youm recommended arthroscopic surgery to repair my labrum and fix the impingement. I had my surgery at NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital (which I have written a separate review for) on May 16th, 2017. I was in far less pain than I anticipated following surgery, and was off all pain meds within 2 days. Dr Youm has been equally attentive for all of my follow ups, answering all of my questions and concerns. I have been in PT for 6 months and the muscles around my hip joint are stronger than they had ever been before. I have experience some tendonitis in my quads due to over stressing the muscles, but this was easily remedied by changing some of my PT exercises.
The staff at the front desk, have always been exceptionally kind, and when I got paranoid I had reinsured my hip, they were able to schedule an appointment with Dr Youm the next day.
I have never waited more than 10-15 minutes to see the doctor, but I do always schedule my appointments in the morning.
Only after I started PT did I learn that Dr Youm was one of the best hip surgeons in NY, and assessment I agree with given my experience. I highly recommend Dr Youm and his staff to anyone seeking treatment for FAI.
Dr Youm is one of the rare doctors who will see you on time, spend enough time discussing your medical issue and is willing to hear the patients questions and concerns. His honesty and ability to inform me of my options left me confident that I made the right choice in seeing him.
I am writing to express my mother’s and my sincere appreciation for the incredible service we received from the office. This review is to compliment in particular, the employees, Mira and Florence, who we had the pleasure to be helped by, and PA Eric Behrens, the Physician Assistant who administered my mother’s Orthovisc shots. Mira, Florence, and PA Behrens deserve a great deal of praise for their professionalism, patience, and kindness.
My mother has been experiencing decapitating right knee pain, secondary from arthritis and a meniscus tear. This was unbelievably frightening and frustrating. My mother called the office for help, and was seen in a reasonable amount of time. When my mother began her series of three shots, they offered availability to accommodate our traffic concerns from Staten Island to the city. PA Behrens ability to calm my mother down and safely administer her series of shots with a sonogram for ideal placement was unparalleled. He ensured that she was comfortable, and that I understood the process as well. Everyone has helped us with a smile.
I needed forms filled out for my employer so I could care for my mother during this time. Mira and Florence have been so accommodating and supportive with this. What a great representation of healthcare the office is. It is because of the excellent bedside manner and qualities PA Behrens demonstrated that I can rest easy that my mother is going to be alright, and I trust this entire establishment with her health.
Thank you so much again for the both of us!
Wonderful experience. Great bed side manner. Operated on two of my children with successful results. Office efficient and never wait.
Dr. Youm operated on both of my hips, three months apart. Arthroscopic surgery for FAI impingement. Both procedures were successful. Very little pain after surgeries. Left hip was almost 5 months ago. Right hip was a little over 2 months ago. PT is a bit painful due to stiffness and minor arthritis in hips, but I'm going 3x/week and walking about 3 miles a day at a brisk pace. I expect full recovery to take a while, so just have to be patient and keep up with the PT. I plan to do stem cell injections into both hips, also with Dr. Youm, to hopefully slow down the progression of arthritis. In short, Dr. Youm is an excellent surgeon. He's also a very nice guy. I highly recommend him. NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases was a good experience both times. Nice staff. Lastly, as of this writing, Dr. Youm takes many insurance plans, which is extraordinary for a surgeon of his skill level and experience. Many of his colleagues in NYC do not.
