We came specifically for karaoke at the bar. Every song that was chosen was clearly out of sync with the lyrics. Some people could manage, but some guests were totally overwhelmed by the issue. Nothing was done to address it, despite it being obvious. Also, all the information on the website (deals, nightly events, menu items) was apparently completely different from what was being offered, and so, out of date. That didn't feel too great either. Other than that, servers were nice, drinks were fine, food was good. But the main thing we came for was the thing that was most disappointing.

I'm Korean, so any karaoke place gets 5 stars.

Fantastic experience. It is what you make it. We came in on a Friday to grab a drink after work at the bar with zero expectations and then were exposed to some incredible singers. This is why I love NYC. If you come early you can sing as many songs as your heart desires. Can’t speak to the private rooms. Restrooms were clean.

BEWARE. I recently went here for my birthday party. When making the reservation, they asked for a credit card information to secure the reservation which wasn't out of the ordinary so I didn't think twice. We opted for the gold package, but when I got there, they said that package only covered 5-people's worth of food despite my party having 7 people and us paying for all 7 people. They refused to give us more food so 2 of the 7 people paid without being able to eat. But that's not all. It gets MUCH worse. Three days later, I got a warning from my bank about possible suspicious activity on my credit card. Someone had tried to use my card information several times and attempted to make over $1000 worth in purchases. I've tried calling the restaurant multiple times with no answer UPDATE: Japas38 contacted me following my initial review. At first they seemed to be very helpful, offering to partially reimburse me for the poor service and miscommunication. However, a few days later, I was contacted by the manager, May, and she yelled at me, accusing me of lying about the company's policy to ask for a credit card up front for large parties. She denied the reimbursement and then started yelling and telling me that told me that it was my fault that the restaurant didn't make food for my entire party. She also kept saying that the check for my party was split 5 ways, then 6 ways, and then 7 ways in an attempt to diffuse the situation.

Japas is lit! Food is amazing! Well we had the wings it is amazing one of the best crunchy wings I’ve ever had! Idk about the cocktails because I had a whiskey on the rock. Love this place most of the crews are nice and friendly! Only thing is they don’t have a greeter or a host by any means people have no clue what to do once they get in the place even me as a first timer going in I have no idea what was going on or how’s the system works unless you ask. Couple of guests including me thought if this is a private party or was there a line to get seated etc....

I was at Japas back in December of 2018. My friend and I stopped in for some food. Neither of us drink, so we were sober when this occurred. There was a white woman sitting nearby who started singing a karaoke song which had a lot of the N-word in it, and she used it freely. My friend - who is Black - got very uncomfortable, as did I. After the white woman was done, I walked up to her and asked her why she felt so comfortable using the N-word. She was clearly drunk and began yelling at me and wanted to start a physical altercation, so my friend and I paid our bill and were about to leave. When we came outside, the woman was there with a white man and also with the owner of the establishment (an Asian man). It was very clear that this racist woman was a friend of the owner. In her drunken stupor, she began calling me names and trying to fight me again. The owner watched all of this happen and did not apologize to my friend even once for creating a dangerous environment. In fact, he sided with the racist white woman and told us to leave. Black folks should stay far away from this establishment and not give Japas your hard-earned money because I guarantee that they will only treat you badly.
