My mother, uncle and grandmother went there and it was wonderful for them. I always wanted to go but it's just too expensive.

Greed runs deep with this school. The parking lot they are putting in is a hustle, even fraud maybe.

Went to school there around 1996 on the Oakland campus. Best time of my life. Fantastic professors, great studios...highly recommended!

So I got banned from school because Jeannine Szamreta, the dean of the California College of the Arts, didn't think that someone with aspergers could run 4 startups on top of 6 classes, and thought I was crazy and a danger to the entire school. I was forced off by public safety. Internet is interested in her, so it shouldn't be too long before she's fired and I can return to school.

While I gained a life long skill to do my craft I also brought with me self esteem scars from the scathing reviews of faculty and classmates who basically were pegged against each other. You were only as good of a person as your work at this school and people did not value you if you failed at something. Also I found that my ability to gain praise or find work after had more to do with how I looked and dressed than my actual portfolio. After 10 years, many of my former classmates teach here, don't know what to make of it. It is what it is. Only after 10 yrs would I feel comfortable setting foot inside again. Too many painful memories of critiques inside. While I now have a successful career in my field, I found the mind games this school puts you through to be very counterproductive.

The faculty, although many are currently working in the field, tend to be extremely biased and do not know how to teach. They simply give projects, shut down concepts or approaches that they don't like and offer very little suggestions to help you develop your work further. I have only had a few teachers who actually helped me grow and enjoy my art. Some other teachers simply made me question whether or not I even want to do art in my future (quite a let down taken that we are paying so much money at this school) Hire actual teachers, not cocky biased artists. Also, since CCA is closing down Oakland campus, I hope they have a plan on fixing the ridiculously small amount of parking near sf campus. I have been in situations where Imissed an entire class simply because I had to drive around looking for a single parking space. If even the faculty complain about making it to class on time because of parking, I think it's time somebody did something about it instead of wasting money on unnecessary things.

Deposited money for a camp for my daughter. Our plans had changed, and called and emailed CCA to let them know. CCA said no refunds or not even a credit. I alerted school in May (2 days after cut off for refunds....even though camp isn’t until late August)..and not even a credit was given. Disingenuous at best, criminal at worst.

It's hard to believe that 10 years ago I graduated from CCA. It was quite possibly one of my favorite times of my life. I learned so much living in California and I grew significantly as a person by being at this school. I think back to my life as a college student and couldn't have made a better choice in choosing to go to CCA. These are some of my fondest memories.
