J.C. Lind Bike Co.
- 1311 N. Wells Street, Chicago, IL 60610
Company Description
In 2008 after living in Holland I started a business importing and selling Dutch bikes to Chicago. Dutch bikes are sturdy and stylish with a comfortable upright riding position and they come with fenders and a chain guard so you can wear your everyday clothing. Dutch biking is about adopting a lifestyle that turns the mundane morning commute or kiddie carpool into an extraordinary experience.

This place is great!! I've never seen a better selection of Dutch bikes anywhere in the city. Jon Lind (the owner) is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about Dutch bicycles, I'd recommend this place to anyone interested in a green form of urban transportation. Also, you can rent a cool Dutch bike to tool around the city neighborhoods, too! 5 stars all the way!!

Took great care of me visiting from out of town. Gave me good sound advice and took time to understand my concerns and priorities. Tended well to my delivery and assembly out of state. The Dutch bicycles are the best, and there are precious few American stores where you can try one out. Highly recommended shop!

I've bought 3 different bikes from Jon over the years (4 if you include the Strider). A Yuba Mundo and a Workcycles Fr8 then Kr8. Within the first week of owning the Fr8 it was stripped of its Brooks saddle and seat post. I went back to Jon to replace both and he only charged me his cost. That is the kind of service that builds loyalty. For over 7 years I've gotten bicycles, service and accessories from his shop and it's always as if I'm going to visit a friend. For utilitarian, comfort and city bikes in Chicago, you cannot beat JCLind.

We were looking for an authentic "Dutch Bike," and found Jon and his shop, determining he was our region's distributor. Jon and his staff are brilliant, patient, and full of great advice on these bikes. I am a former Cat. II-III racer (over 30 years ago), and my take on "bikes" is based solely on weight and angles, etc., "racing components" and the like. After time spent in Europe (Holland, in particular), we've learned those principles are a bit "off" when buying a "Euro"commuter bike, and that's as it should be! Jon has all the best marquees and the best accessories, and he and his staff are the best at fitment, outfitting, and advice. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon to buy my wife a Dutch style commuter bike, and Jon and staff were up to the task! They helped us select, test ride and outfit the right bike (a Work Cycles "Secret Service") and even get it into the station wagon for transport without even a front wheel removal! They were so helpful and patient with such great experiential advice, I cannot compliment them enough. They helped us get the right accessories (front rack and cargo crate!), and they even talked us out of expensive accessories we thought about, but didn't really need. This is a business and a business model that we respect and admire and will continue to patronize. And, as if that weren't enough, we've also found that Jon and JC Lind's prices are significantly less than other resources we looked at for these same bikes. For example only: One of the few other places in the US we found that could get the bike we bought was listing it for at least $400.00 more, plus shipping costs of about $350.00 with the same fitments! So, not only do you get first class service and courtesy with JC Lind, you get the best price, too. All in all, a great company and people to deal with in a great shoppe in a great neighborhood in Chicago, and a brilliant deal with Jon! He has our endorsement for the the best Dutch bike dealer and a great merchant! Hats off to Jon and JC Lind! The kind of bike shop experience that's "olde fashioned" and all-too-rare these days! Wishing them long term success and prosperity! We'll be back for more!!

Great place - J.C. Lind's shop was recommended to me by numerous people on the internet as a great place to find a Dutch style bike. I e-mailed with some questions and got some very thorough answers that really helped to address some concerns I had. Went in and purchased a Gazelle and couldn't have been happier!

This is a special bike shop. They sell Dutch-style bikes designed for shopping or transporting small children. They are not cheap but if want to live a car-free lifestyle they are nearly indispensable. The owner, Jon, is a super nice guy and it's a pleasure to do business with him.

If you're into utilitarian bicycles, you must stop here. The owner, Jon, is extremely knowledgeable and will do his very best to get you on the proper bike for your situation. It's not about just selling any bike, but what you need in your life. He has an area around the block to test bikes and plenty of accessories in the store. Also, if you want a bike you'll never regret buying, buy a WorkCycles. All of these bikes are expensive, but in this case you are getting pure quality. Buy Dutch, they are professionals at biking.
