Company Description
The University of the District of Columbia is historic and modern, all at the same time. Public higher education in the District originated in 1851 when Myrtilla Miner founded a “school for colored girls” in Washington, DC. In 1879, Miner Normal School joined the DC public school system. Similarly, Washington Normal School was established in 1873, as a school for white girls. Embracing its essence as a public historically black urban-focused land-grant university in the nation’s capital, UDC is dedicated to serving the needs of the community of the District of Columbia, and producing lifelong learners who are transformative leaders in the workforce, government, nonprofit sectors and beyond.
Review & Rating
I think the Univeristy of the District of Columbia is a great University, I took my training as a Homehealth Aid February, 1997, I graduated and later on , I went back and trained for a CNA, which I graduated in August, 1999. Each was a 3 month course. They have great teachers their. I thank God For UDC.
A great place to work and serve students
Firebird nation this is my college. UDC creates inspiration hope and opportunity within the district. UDC is DC’s premier Public HBCU!!!
Educators there for the most part are amazing! Professors like Fred Ratliff, Dr. K. Crews, Dr. J. Fleming, Dr. M. El-Khawas, Dr. A. Howe, Andrea Royal, Anthony Mansuetto (moved to Texas) and many more that I have yet to meet - I do hope the ones that have been reported incompetent or "needs improvement" are being addressed accordingly. Thank you UDC for a great first part of my extended education and helping me achieve my dreams of becoming an elementary educator.
I have fond memories of the university dating back to the days of Federal City College (FCC) before the merger, which took FCC, DC Teachers College, and Washington Technical Institute to form the university. The majority of professors have been unique and outstanding, because they brought real-world experience to the classroom. I'm a lifetime student of learning. When I first started my college education, I came here at the age of 22 in 1970 after serving in the Vietnam War for 2.5 years. My initial major was computer science, a field I worked in for 23 years before venturing into organizational change management. When I retired from the U.S. Treasury Department in 2007, I returned to UDC to persue paralegal studies to enrich and further my understanding of legal process and procedure. I was also a collateral duty federal mediator for 10 years. This has helped me with my private practice service advocating for public sector employees who file complaints of illegal employment discrimination with the EEOC. To the UDC family... I'm back!
UDC Music Department, some of the most talented people anywhere...
This school has students waiting 3 and more hours to see one person and I don't even know why they have a student success center if they don't know a damn thing and it's not benefiting the students as high as tuition is the service is very poor the course selections and times are very limited the parking is terrible and it's not free to students why are they even open????
Loved our tour of the hydroponic greenhouse and rooftop garden a part of the Biophilic DC conference. UDC is the only urban land grant University. Lots of lessons for growing microgreens hydroponically (be careful not to plant everything all at once or you'll get 120 pounds of greens in 10 days) 120 pounds may be too much if you don't have distribution channels in place. Here in DC microgreens sell for $12 a pound. Hydroponically grown food can be higher in nutrition than traditionally grown food because plants are in optimal growing conditions without stress from weather variation.
UDC has some of the best professors that loves to teach and challenge students in becoming productive people upon graduation. During my four years attending the University I was impressed by Dr. Williams in the English department, Dr. Royal public speaking, Dr. Barnett information technology. These professors changed my outlook as a person. UDC also has allowed me to enhance my skills as an computer technician while working as an work study student. I also valued my experience working with Dwight Sanchez vice president of enrollment management as an educational tech. UDC has adopted my children as their own and has taught them great skills in there upper bound program. I look forward to obtaining my bachelor of science degree in information technology in spring of 2018. Let's go Firebirds...
terrible administration, no one is ever willing to help. I’ll never attend this school again and wouldn’t suggest it to anyone.
